Welcome to the Virtual Delivery Support Center.

The information below applies to Virtual Instructor Led Training that will be utlizing the Adobe Connect Platform.

Please complete the steps in all 3 tabs below for optimal delivery experience.

  • Virtual Classroom (using Adobe Connect)
  • Virtual Data Center
  • VMware Learning Platform
  • Requirements and System Check
  • Self Help and Additional Resources

Thank you for enrolling in a Virtual ILT class, a real-time interactive training experience.

You will use an internet connection to access live audio (and possibly live video of the instructor only) in this instructor-led session. The instructor may also share presentation slides. DELL EMC’s virtual ILT classes are live-online and facilitated by qualified expert instructors, as opposed to self-paced.

Your online class may have ALL students attending online, or there may be a combination of both online students and students who are in a physical classroom.

Note: Please be advised that any recording of this event, including audio, video or otherwise, is strictly prohibited.

Note: Complete the following System Checks and Tests prior to your scheduled class start date.

1.   Connect to the Internet

A wired connection is required.

Wireless- and VPN connection are not recommended.

2.   Connect Headset

Audio is provided through voice-over-IP (VoIP) through your PC. To verbally communicate with the instructor and with another students, a headset with a microphone is required.  If a headset is not available, you will still be able to communicate with the instructor and fellow students using the text chat functionality provided.

3.   System Check (REQUIRED)

Self Help and Additional Resources

Adobe Help

Verify connection speed:

Verify flash player is up to date:

Close all applications (especially ones that compete for bandwidth like, email, other browsers, etc.)

Hardwire your network connection with an Ethernet cable, do not use Wi-Fi

Turn off any virus scanning software or any firewalls

The following outlines the actions required to open access to the Virtual Data Center (VDC) via the internet, how to install the Citrix Receiver and what prerequisites are needed.

  • Client Workstations
  • Client Network
  • Bandwidth Test
  • Client Firewall
  • VDC Test

Workstations - Minimum System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows XP or above
  • Web Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or above
  •         Your browser settings should accept cookies, run JavaScript and allow web sockets
  • Required Software:  Citrix Receiver
  •         Installation during the VDC Test or from http://receiver.citrix.com

Network

  • The training site must have internet access available in the classroom where the training event will be held.
  • The local site internet link must have available bandwidth above which is normally used at the time the course will be held.
  • Recommended bandwidth requirements are approx. 75Kbps per logon (student or instructor).

Bandwidth Test

https://education.emc.com/guest/vdc/textspeedtest.htm

There is also a direct link after login into the VDC.

Note: Please ensure that the ‘Temporary Internet Files’ are deleted from the web browser. This must be done each time that the speed test is repeated.

This speed test result will display:

Verify that you have at least 700 Kilobits per Second of throughput.

This is the minimum requirement.

The bandwidth test results represent a point in time snapshot, whereas, time of day, normal network usage, number of clients connected should also be considered.  In the case of borderline results it may be necessary for repeat bandwidth tests several hours apart. If it is necessary to repeat the test, first ensure that the ‘Temporary Internet Files’ are deleted from the web browser.

Firewall

ICA/SSL is the protocol used to securely deliver traffic. It is encapsulated and encrypted within SSL, and is delivered over tcp port 443. The required VDC gateway may also vary from class to class depending on which lab equipment is required and available to support the training.

Therefore, the client network firewall must pass traffic on ports  80 (http) and 443 (https)* to all of the following gateways:

http://vdc.emc.com

http://emeavdc.emc.com/

http://apjvdc.emc.com/

This is essential. If this is not the case the connection to the VDC will fail and training cannot be supported.  The customer must verify with their internal network dept that there are no security or configuration issues that will prohibit this type of connection.

*Port 443 is the official registered port for HTTPS; any traffic over port 443 is assumed to be HTTPS by firewalls and proxy servers.  Therefore, firewalls and proxies do not really differentiate between ICA/SSL and HTTPS, and typically try to treat ICA/SSL as HTTPS.

VDC Test

Launch Internet Explorer and connect to one of the following Virtual Data Centers, depending on the region in which you are located:

http://vdc.emc.com

http://emeavdc.emc.com

http://apjvdc.emc.com

Note: Make sure that popups are enabled in the browser. Popups will be required if it is necessary to install the Citrix Receiver. If popups are not enabled, you will not see the prompts.

  • Login as vdctest with the password 2testit!
  • If the Citrix Receiver is already installed you will see the Applications

  • If the Citrix Receiver is not installed, download and install the it from http://receiver.citrix.com or directly inside the VDC:

                    -    agree with the Citrix licence agreement and click Install

                    -    Download CitrixReceiverWeb.exe

                    -    Install CitrixReceiverWeb.exe

                    -    Accept the licence agreement

                    -    Let the Single Sign-On unchecked

                    -    click Install

  • After the installation, you should see the Applications

  • Open the RDP Session to the VDC Test Desktop by clicking the link in the Applications tab

Troubleshooting

If all tasks outlined are successfully completed then it meets the minimum system requirements.  Please send all test results to EduTech Support.  They will then independently confirm that the test was successful and that the site is suitable to host the training.

If the site is unable to complete any of the tasks and/or fails to meet any of the minimum requirements then it is unsuitable for deploying a class or training session from the EMEA Virtual Data Center.

Sometimes there maybe technical problems preventing the completion of one or more tasks. Please send screenshots of any such errors to EduTech Support

A member of the team will be in contact to troubleshoot any issues.

The following outlines the actions required to open access to the VMWare Learning Platform.
